Who are we?
Emergency Accommodation Taupo is an unfunded Community Volunteer Support Group in Taupo dedicated to helping the homeless in Taupo and NZ. Founded in February 2016, initially started by 4 local woman who saw the need for housing increasing as rentals declined in availability. They got together over a cup of tea and biscuits, discussed the real issue of homelessness in their community and decided something needed to be done. One week after coming together they had made front page of Taupo Times, set up a facebook page and started receiving calls from people needing help and from families in the community wanting to help with accommodation.
The group quickly separated into two, finding Renee Gray, Emergency Accommodation Taupo Manager catering to the immediate needs of the community. The other 3 woman decided to focus their efforts on the communities long-term needs for affordable housing, and so the jouney began.

The Group has adopted a holistic approach to helping end homelessness & poverty in Taupo by providing emergency accommodation support & advocacy services with Work and Income, Housing New Zealand and other social services, Dr and hospital appointments, house inspections, c.v preparation & job search. Through kind donations from the community they have been able to provide clothing & shoes, warm jackets, toiletries inc. womans personal items, blankets, sleeping bags, tents, torches, beds, furniture, food and petrol.
